Installing the Tracking Code with Google Tag Manager
This article explains how to install the DigitalPilot tracking code automatically using Google Tag Manager (GTM)—DigitalPilot adds and publishes the tag in your GTM container for you.
Install Automatically with GTM
DigitalPilot can install your tag automatically in Google Tag Manager. You connect your Google account, choose your GTM container, and click Install—no copying script or editing GTM yourself.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Open the Install Tag Options
- Log in to your DigitalPilot account and go to Settings (or use the install step during onboarding).
- Under Install the tag on your website, click Install with Google Tag Manager (Beta).
2. Connect with Google
- In the modal, click Continue with Google and sign in with the Google account that has access to your GTM container.
- DigitalPilot will load your GTM accounts and containers.
3. Select Your GTM Container and Install
- In the Select GTM Container dropdown, choose the container where you want the DigitalPilot tag installed (e.g. your website container).
- Click Install.
- DigitalPilot will add the DigitalPilot tag to your container and publish it. You’ll see a confirmation when it’s done.
What Happens Next
The DigitalPilot tag is added to your GTM container and set to fire on All Pages. Once the container is published, DigitalPilot will start receiving visitor data. You can confirm in your DigitalPilot dashboard that data is flowing.
If You Don’t See Your Container
Make sure you sign in with the Google account that owns or has access to your GTM container. If GTM isn’t set up yet, create a container at Google Tag Manager and install the GTM snippet on your site first; then return to DigitalPilot and use Install with Google Tag Manager again.
