How to Create Your DigitalPilot Tag

This article walks you through how to create a new tracking tag in DigitalPilot so you can start capturing visitor data on your website.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make Sure You Have a DigitalPilot Account

2. What Is a Tag?

A tag is a small piece of code that you install on your website to track visitor activity. It helps DigitalPilot collect data for your ABM campaigns.

3. Create a New Tag

You can create a tag from several places:

4. Fill Out the Tag Details

You'll be asked to complete a short form. All fields are required:

  • Website Name: Enter your company or website name. This helps you easily identify your tags in the dashboard.
  • Website Domain: Enter your site’s URL (e.g., example.com — no “https://”). This is useful for excluding internal visits from your reporting.
  • Reporting Timezone: Choose the timezone you want your reports to follow. This won’t affect the data collected, only how it’s displayed.
  • Vertical: Select the industry category that best describes your business. This is for organizational purposes and doesn’t impact how the tag works.
  • Currency: Choose your preferred currency for billing and reporting.

5. Create the Tag

  • Once all fields are completed, click “Create”.
  • A confirmation window will appear with your unique tag and installation instructions.

6. Install the Tag on Your Website

After creating the tag, you’ll be prompted to install it.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Name tags clearly if you manage multiple websites or domains.
  • Keep track of your tag code—you can always access it later in your dashboard.
  • Install the tag right away to start collecting data as soon as possible.
